I Forgot About the Blog

I completely forgot about my blog. This is unacceptable.

I was nanny to 5 kids this summer.
My last day with them is on Friday.
Praise be to God.
Its been a long summer.

I'm working as a CNA right now and I started nursing school again yesterday. Here we go again!

On the weekends, Mr. Java gets to come home from the Academy. I live for the weekends. It has seriously been some of the best days of my life.

No ring yet, but there is talk. AND we went to look a few weeks ago.

Here the story goes.

We were at the range shooting his guns, and he kept bringing up the one that he wants me to have. So naturally, I said, "there are a few other things I have to buy before I purchase a gun."
Mr. Java said, "well, I'll probably end up buying it for you since I'll use it too."
This was right before we went in to the shooting lanes. I told him I'd tell him something in the care when we left.

We get to the truck and he asks what I wanted to tell him earlier. So I say, "buy me a second hand ring, and get me the gun as an engagement present." He said that works for me!

So as we're driving down the road he asks me what I want to do next.... my response - I dunno.

Then he lays out the whopper. Do you want to go look at rings?

PAUSE. WAIT. WHAT. BREATHE. EXCUSE ME?!?!

After I got over the heart attack and realized he was actually serious, we went to look at rings. I found some lovely ones, so we shall see what he ends up choosing! We're going to visit my parents in two weeks, so hopefully it won't be long!

Life Happens

Its been almost two months since I've posted. I'm getting internet lazy, or rather, I'm just living life.

Mr. Java is almost done with field training. He goes back to the Academy next Sunday, so its back to no talking during the week. As far as the last 3 months goes... Its been hectic schedules, impromptu dates, and lots and lots of working opposite shifts.

I'll update.

I graduated from college with my first Bachelor's degree. Starting the second one here soon!

Mr. Java made me dinner for my birthday -- Home made mexican tacos!

The drive to the hiking point. It was such a beautiful day!

On the rare day we both had off work, we went hiking to one of the tallest peaks in our area.

At the halfway point. We climbed those rocks that were bigger than me!
The view from up top!
Blue sky and light fluffy clouds. So pretty.

On memorial day (and as part of my birthday present) we drove to Washington, D.C. to spend part of the day with the heroic men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. We walked through Arlington National Cemetery and visited the graves of the Navy SEALS who died in the helicopter bombing. While the city was going on with their every day lives, enjoying the "holiday" off form work, the cemetery was a somber place where many people simply sat and spent time with their loved ones. It was powerful, and emotional.
Many tears were shed, but it was an awesome way to spend the morning.

Since the end of school, I have started an online computer technology class to finish the last of my degree requirements, and I've also started nannying 5 kids every day from 7:30am to 3:30pm.
It rained this day, so we played outside of course!

Its Melting

The last three men I've had in my life were pretty much the epitome of the word that starts with "Do-" and ends with "-oosh." (Excuse my phonetics, this is a play off of a bachelorette party I hosted last week).

So... this time around... and hopefully the last time around.... when Mr. Java says something that really isn't that major to him.... it means the world to me.

Here's the latest...

So I have to drive ALL the way to *insert city here* on Wednesday to swap out the coral bridesmaid dress (they said they would do it for no charge). None of my girl friends could go, and I found out it was 1 of Mr. Java's 2 days off next week. I asked him if he wanted to go… thinking he’d probably say no since it was to pick up a dress…. But he goes “Okay!” and then asks what we’re doing… I told him about the dress… and said other than that I’m not sure, it depends what time I have to be back for work. His response “I’d be with you so that’s enough.”

Excuse me while I go mop up the puddle that just came from my melting heart.

Doing the Dishes

So... its a known fact that I absolutely hate doing the dishes. Mr. Java detests it almost as much as I do. Needless to say, its the last thing either of us want to do after cooking dinner. My apartment doesn't have a dishwasher, so its a rather large build-up of them in the sink every few days.

Well... not quite this bad.

Last night I made dinner for Mr. Java and myself... and afterwards proceeded to say "I do not want to do the dishes."

He says.... "If you were a dish, I'd do you."

Enough said.

Feedback

What do you guys think? I hadn't really thought about it before but this article and the one included in this one are hilarious! Not only is it funny, but it provides valid points as well about pre-planning and then adjusting to each other's preferences.

I kept thinking that it'd apply to any kind of situation in which you lived as a single for a while and having to adjust households or lifestyles or even jobs to another person's.

Thoughts?

Just Listen

I've been hearing a lot of people talk about listening. My friends tell me I'm a good listener. Sometimes... I think people just want to be heard. I know I've often called Mama Maxwell, not because I wanted advice, or instructions; simply to be heard. I just wanted her to listen.
I feel like we meet people out in the world; a coffee shop, the grocery check-out line, bus stop, and all we do is pass them by. In the elevator today, 4 out of the 5 people besides me, had their cell phones out. No polite conversation, no idle chit chat, just silence (and the clicking of cell phone keys). It makes me wonder what difference it would make if we all just stopped and listened for a few minutes. Walk outside without earbuds in, or without looking at your cell phone every 2 seconds. What do you hear? Who do you hear?
You may be surprised.
Just listen.

Isolation

Ever have one of those days when you just feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? That's been me all week. Work has been alright, but I'm beginning to hate being in limbo with so much stuff, sometimes I feel so isolated it just makes my heart hurt. Mama Maxwell called me the other day and after chit-chatting for a few minutes about paperwork and forms, I broke down crying. I don't really know why either.

One thing that doesn't help very much is that I thought I'd be super busy with my 3 online classes. But the average time I spend on homework per week is 3 hours, including test taking. This semester is so anti-climactic with homework it is not even funny. I'm graduating in less than a month, but I've gotten bored with things. The work isn't hard, so there's no need to study, and I already know the information from previous classes on the same subjects. I cannot wait to be out in the real world, working and being profitable with my time, instead of wasting it on minute little details that don't matter.

In addition to being bored with school, I also don't have any classes with people. For some reason I feel so isolated sometimes. I have a few friends where I am right now, but this week was really hard. It is definitely true that you don't realize what you've had until its gone. I miss being able to text my best friend whenever the moment calls, or talking on the phone while I drive to work. All those things I took for granted before. I will be so thankful on Wednesday when Mr. Java begins field training. Not only have I not had my boyfriend this week, but he truly is my best friend. More and more the past few months I have realized how important friendship is before having a relationship that is more. Because we had an entire year of solid friendship as our foundation it has been so much easier to transition to more. He comes home tonight, and then has two more days of training before he begins field training. I can't wait!
